Cape Dezhnev Cape Dezhnev is at the easternmost part of the Eurasian continent. It sits on the Chukchi Peninsula in the Bering Strait of Russia. Cape Dezhnev was formerly called East Cape but renamed in 1898 by Captain James Cook honoring Semyon Dezhnev, a Russian explorer of Siberia. In the late 19th century, Cape Dezhnev was the center for fur trade between the Americas and the native Yupik and Chukchi tribes of Siberia. Cape Dezhnev is a place where the snow meets the icy cold waters and lush green vegetation - a scenic wonderland meant to be on a postcard. |
